A Design Based Upon Ethnographic User Research

After researching how and where people use and store their headphones, we discovered several common workarounds that users regularly fall back on: wrapping the headset cord around iPhone (rendering the touchscreen unusable); coiling the wire around fingers and putting it in a bag or pocket (only to dig it out later fully tangled) or surrendering to the chaos, stuffing the wad of tangled earphone cords somewhere and hoping for the best.

TidyTilt™ emerged from our research on how users store (or don't) their headphone cords. We found that the simplest solution to the cord storage predicament was to utilize the typical user behavior of quickly wrapping  earbuds around the phone. TidyTilt™ works just in this way - it lies flat on the back of the phone; cords are wrapped around the phone; TidyTilt's edges fold together, forming a channel for the earbud cords; TidyTilt™, along with the earbud cords are removed by sliding them right off the phone; earbuds stay neat and tangle-free. Plus, there is nothing extra to carry, since TidyTilt™ lives on the back of iPhone.

TidyTilt™ was featured on WIRED.com, CNNMoney.com, and Gizmodo, among others. It became the 8th highest-funded product on Kickstarter at the close of its campaign.

A Simple Solution

JustMount™ is just that - a simple mount. We designed it to work perfectly with TidyTilt+ to magnetically hold an iPhone, wrapped earbuds, keys, and more. JustMount™ has 4 magnetically-active sides, so, for example, an iPhone in a TidyTilt+ case mounts on the front, earbuds wrapped in TidyTilts stick to the sides, and keys can hang on the bottom. JustMount™ is the perfect by the door, above a bedside table, in the kitchen - just about anywhere you'd want to mount things!

A new luggage concept for the modern carry-on traveler

Air travel today is rife with unpleasant experiences. A jet-setter's luggage shouldn't contribute to them. With this in mind, we set out to design a luggage set for the modern traveler that would adhere to 5 design principles:
• Be easy to move and lift overhead 
• Promote efficiency at each stage of the journey
• Work as a system, or as individual pieces
• Accommodate different trip durations
• Function within airline, TSA, and FAA regulations.

Typical luggage fails at many stages of the journey, from packing, to security lines, to fitting into overhead bin space. Swift is designed to ease the journey wherever possible.

A Swift™ luggage set has 3 pieces:

1. SwiftFIVE: a larger, rolling bag meant for clothes and shoes
2. SwiftTHREE: a self-standing, collapsible briefcase, that latches onto SwiftFIVE
3. SwiftONE: a sleek laptop or tablet case, that snaps into SwiftTHREE

By acting as a single piece of carry-on sized luggage when combined, Swift™ lets the traveler easily maneuver through the airport and onto the plane. For lifting onto security belts, or overhead into bin stowage, SwiftTHREE detaches from SwiftFIVE, reducing weight and bulk. This lets the traveler keep their essentials with them at all times, even if the larger piece must be gate-checked.
